Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CH.A.D.D.)
Through family support and advocacy, public and professional education, and encouragement of scientific research, CH.A.D.D. works to ensure that those with ADD reach their inherent potential. Local chapters hold regular meetings providing support and information.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD)
A non-profit membership organization with 17 specialized divisions. DLD is the division dedicated to learning disabilities. Provides free information and holds conferences.

Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC)
Information Clearinghouse funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education and hosted by the Council for Exceptional Children.

Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA)
The LDA national office has a resource center of over 500 publications for sale; it also operates a film rental service. Call the national headquarters to receive a free information packet.

National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children (NAPSEC)
Provides referral service for persons interested in private special education placements. Offers publications and sponsors annual conferences.

National Parent Network on Disabilities (NPND)
Membership organization open to all agencies, organizations, parent centers, parent groups, professionals, and individuals concerned with the quality of life for people with disabilities. Provides weekly email newsletter with legislative news and more!

National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD)
NCLD seeks to raise public awareness and understanding, furnish national information and referrals, and arrange educational programs and legislative advocacy. NCLD provides educational tools to heighten understanding of learning disabilities, including the annual publications called "Their World," quarterly newsletters, informative articles, specific state-by-state resource listings and informative videos regarding learning disabilities.

National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY)
NICHCY is an information clearinghouse that provides free information on disabilities and related issues, focusing on children and youth (birth to age 25). Free services include personal responses, referrals, technical assistance, and information searches.

National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
NICHD provides reviews of literature and information related to NICHD research.

International Dyslexia Association
(formerly The Orton Dyslexia Society)

The Society has 42 branches across the country which offer informational meetings and support groups. Referrals are made for persons seeking resources; in addition, the Society publishes journals and publications regarding dyslexia.

Schwab Learning

Schwab Learning, a program area of the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, is dedicated to helping kids with learning differences be successful in learning and life. The Schwab Learning web site at www.schwablearning.org provides reliable, research-based information and guidance. Developed especially for parents of children who are newly identified as having a learning difference, it is designed to be a parent's "guide" through the new and unfamiliar landscape of LD.HeadsUp! Reading Project (National Head Start Association): National Teacher Training Course to enhance children's reading skills. This is a distance-learning college course broadcast through the National Head Start Association's HeadsUp! direct satellite Network.
